To find the bus schedule and book a ticket online, please visit the Kefalonia Bus station site.
Your bus ticket includes the cost of the ferry ride from the mainland to the Island of Kefalonia. You simply book the bus ticket, and the ferry should be accounted for. There is no added stress of figuring out which ferry to board to Kefalonia. Details of how to reach the Bus Station in Athens and the journey to Kefalonia are on the following pages.
To catch the bus to Kefalonia you will need to get to the Kifisou bus station. From the Athens airport, you can either take a taxi to the bus station (around 50 euros) or get on the X93 bus (around 5 euros). The Kifisou bus station is the central KTEL Bus Station at Kifisou Avenue. The bus from the Athens airport will take about 1 hour to reach the Kifisou bus station.
Argostoli Field Station: There is at least one bus to Argostoli daily from Athens.
Lixouri Field Station: There is typically one bus to Lixouri daily from Athens. It is easiest to take this bus. If you chose to take the bus to Argostoli, you’ll need to take a taxi or walk (1.3 km) to the ferry in Argostoli which will ferry you to Lixouri (ferry is 30min, 3.00 euros).
When you exit the baggage claim through the sliding doors you will be at the arrivals area. Exit through the nearest exit gate and turn right. You should already be able to see the buses. Walk along the pedestrian walkway until you see the ticket office in the bus area. The ticket office is right next to where the buses are parked.
You can either buy your ticket from the ticket office or buy it from the bus driver (around €6). The X93 departs from the Athens Airport around every 30 to 40 minutes . The buses will have “X93” scrolling on the front/back/side of it and the destination name in Greek (may not be in English- Greek name below).
The Kifisou Bus Station (ΣΤ. ΥΠΕΡΑ/ΚΩΝ ΛΕΩΦ. ΚΗΦΙΣΟΥ) is the LAST stop.
**Kifisou, Kiffissou and Kifisos are the same, where the bus station is, but Kifisias is a different location
The bus will travel from Athens either to a port in Patras or Killini (either one, it doesn’t matter), then you and the bus will board the ferry. Your ferry ticket fee is included in your bus fee and at the time of purchase you will receive two separate tickets, one for the bus and one for the ferry). The ferry takes about 1.5 hours to reach the island. During your ferry ride, you will get off the bus and can have a bite to eat on the ferry and relax in the lounge area etc. When the ferry docks in Kefalonia (either in Poros or Sami), the same bus you were on before will drive off the ferry and you will quickly walk from the lounge area of the ferry to board the bus waiting just outside the ferry for you. Hurry up though! They don’t make sure everyone is on the bus before they leave.
The bus will then make several stops until the final destination, either in Argostoli or Lixouri, Kefalonia. Make sure to communicate with the bus driver and confirm your final destination.
